We both were working from home today, so we both heard the crash from the front yard.
“Did you hear that?”
“Yeah, I did. Sounds like someone hit something”
My first thought was that the basketball goal had fallen over *again* and I wondered if I had parked far enough away from it. Then I got out the front door and saw the white pickup truck there slowly pulling away from our mailbox which was laying in our yard.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I wasn’t even looking.”
“Hey, it’s not big deal. I was going to replace it. I’ve got another one in the back.”
I looked at the kids truck. There was a pretty big ding in the tailgate. I leaned forward to look at the back of our car. No damage.
“Are you ok?” I asked him.
“Yeah, I’m good.”
“I’m just glad you didn’t hit the car. Really, don’t worry about it. I really do have another one.”
I shook his hand and walked back to the house where I saw Lisa duck out of the doorway, trying very hard to not laugh.
The way I look at this, my procrastination paid off. If I had replaced the thing a few years ago when I bought the replacement, then I’d be buying a new one now. So, score one for putting things off.
Poor kid, tho. That dent is going to be a tough one to get out.
