So, like, wow. What a world, huh? What a great time to have a president in charge that doesn’t believe scientists and is more concerned with how the stock market plunges affect his reelection than actually giving out correct information.
Vote for the orange loud mouth liar. What could go wrong?
But, I digress. Anyway…
I see a lot of, well, just concerning things happening and really not-quite-right ways of looking at this. It’s changing day-by-day and I personally think erring on the side of caution isn’t a bad thing as long as you don’t go overboard and think you need a head-to-toe hazmat suit to make a Walmart run.
All I can tell you is that my Facebook buddy that lives in China is still on lockdown in his apartment complex as of today. Also, the former head of the FDA says we already probably have thousands of undiagnosed cases here in the US because we missed the boat on testing. Take that all for for what you will.
Here are two links: The World Health Organization’s Covid-19 Page and the Corresponding page for the Center for Disease Control here in the States. I never thought I would say this, but the CDC’s news releases are being run through the White House, so some information has been removed like the total number of people tested and maybe other minor omissions here and there. I’m not saying that what’s there is untrustworthy, but there’s a certain lens that it should be viewed through. You know, you’ve got relatives like that. Use the same filter.
The two really big things that I see being recommended are:
- Wash your hands/avoid touching eyes and mouth.
- Avoid large crowds (this is really not being said enough at this point)
There’s an additional thing: Face Masks. They’re required gear if you go outside in China and I’ve read an anecdotal story about a guy on a train asking another passenger why he was wearing a mask and the guy said he was a microbiologist and understood how pandemics spread. I’m not quite 100% on mask use, but I’ve already got a box here that was purchased a few years ago so I’m not going to panic buy on that front quite yet.
