A Walk on the Beach

Wrightsville Beach opened up a few parking lots this past week, so we decided to give it a go Saturday and see if we could safely & comfortably get a walk in on the beach.

We chose to go in the evening because that’s our favorite time to be at the beach anyway because it’s far less crowded. We drove out to the Shell Island lot and, ah, it was glorious.

So, I’m going to go with an unpopular opinion here. Even tho I hate not being on the beach and think it’s a great place to get outside and social distance (look at alllll the space!), I agree with what Wrightsville Beach is doing by limiting access. I’d much rather them do what they’re doing now and be more drastic about it to keep overall numbers low than have to do it over the entire Summer.

I think it’s easy to be myopic in our sight and only see how we’re affected by something than everyone as a whole. I know you can steer that in whatever direction you please. I won’t even get into the fact that being having to choose between lives and livelihoods is a being forced upon us by a really messed up economic system that condemns people for hoarding toilet paper, but celebrates those hoarding billions of dollars.

This is America. We’ve got the resources to get through all of this without anyone having to lose their home or worry about paying utilities or medical bills.

But, I digress.
